Reflection captured from a puddle in my driveway after the rain. Joy can be found even in the smallest yet simplest of things. I chose this photograph because it captures two things I love, rain and sunsets. I did not use editing for this photograph.

Nature is beautiful isn't it? But when most people think of nature they think of the sky or the vibrant green trees. Not in this case I like to focus more on the water. Think about it - the sights, the vibrant blue it brings out the calmness and tranquility. The reflection of the trees and the sun shimmering across the lake. Sometimes I wish I could come back and take in the sights of the lakes once more.

A warm home filled with entertainment and laughter. The joy on the boy’s face as he looks down at his delicious cake. The candles burn just as bright as his future, filled with new pride, friends, and discoveries. The flame is the ember, igniting joy as he turns double digits. The glee of blowing out the candles after making a birthday wish. There’s no other joy than the happiness someone feels when they tear the fun-colored wrapping paper to see the new toy they can enjoy! The moment is filled with cheers and laughter as everyone eats as much cake and ice cream as they desire. At the end of the day, the memories are everlasting joy!

This photo is of a sunset taken while standing on Kihei beach, Maui, Hawaii. My photo relates to this year's theme, joy, because those were my feelings when I took the photo. Growing up in California, I have seen many sunsets, but this Hawaiian sunset was the most beautiful I have ever seen. The colors were so bright and beautiful, and the setting, standing on the beach listening to the waves crashing on the sand while reggae music played in the background, brought me joy. This photo marked the end of a beautiful day for my family and me.

I took this photo when I was visiting my aunt, uncle, and cousins that live in Canada. My little cousin was beyond excited to see this peony, and she immediately ran up to it to smell it. She was so curious about all of the small water droplets on the flower and kept asking me questions about them, and I loved that she was so excited about the nature surrounding her. She was also so shocked about the fact that the flower was almost the same size as her head! I was so happy to have had my camera on me in that moment, because I caught a moment of joy and peacefulness between humankind and nature which is what I cherish most.

This photo was taken at a lively dog park, where the energy of the outdoors adds to the vibrant moment shared between the elderly woman and her dog. In a candid shot, the dog joyfully jumps into her lap, wrapping its paws around her in an affectionate hug. The woman bursts into laughter, her face glowing with pure happiness as she embraces her furry companion. The photo perfectly captures the theme of "Joy," as it highlights the spontaneity and warmth of their connection. It’s a beautiful reminder that joy comes in many forms—whether it's a loving embrace or a playful moment with a pet—and that these simple acts bring boundless happiness.

This photograph was taken next to the Newport Pier in Newport Beach California. It was the day before my 59th birthday, I had gone to the beach to watch the sunset with some friends. This surfer was catching the shore break and crashing repeatedly, yet would get up, laugh, and wait for the next wave. The joy of watching him, the joy of his freedom in the waves and the joy this photo gives me as he finally nailed it, makes me think this is a perfect image for this contest! This photo was taken on an iPhone.

I took this picture in a local park as I was thinking of the feeling of joy and I snapped this picture as I thought it was the embodiment of the feeling, word and emotion. Struggle, pain, setbacks, and the overwhelming feeling that you think you’re not good enough. All of these things, all these “shackles” that hold you down from your true self, true potential are all created from one’s mind. It takes all of you to climb the slump, climb your Everest to find out who you really are. One of those mountains is the conformity of completing your education, something that is easier said than done. The feeling of relief, and joy that makes you feel like you’re moving in slow motion or floating even. If there was a measurement on the emotion, it would be off the charts. What feels like your whole life dedicated to accomplishing this monumental achievement now only opens doors for you as you are being engulfed by the deep blue that is the “real world” only to be found in the same situation you were before. The situation that is presented to you is only what you make of it. You did it before, who's stopping you from doing it again?
